On Friday July 11, presentations of the six semi-finalist projects for the Oaxaca edition of Impact Hub Fellowship for Longer Lives in partnership with AXA and Swiss Re Foundation took place before a distinguished jury at the Impact Hub Oaxaca. The announcement of the three finalists was made at a public ceremony at City Hall in Oaxaca with the support of the Economic Development Ministry and sponsorship from two local firms: the Tamez Corporation and Interceramic Oaxaca. The three initiatives, considered the most innovative solutions for a population with an increasing life expectancy, will now enter the 3-months cohort phase. The goal for all of them is to have a positive impact on the aging sector of our society, first in the city of Oaxaca de Juarez, and ideally later, as a model that could be introduced throughout the country.
The three finalists will go through an intensive coaching and mentorship process over the next three months. The winning project, the Impact Hub Fellow, will be announced this October and will receive 260,000 Mexican pesos (around €14,700) as initial investment, including an additional 9-month scholarship, a business consultancy, a workspace at Impact Hub Oaxaca, and access to the vast networks of Impact Hub, Swiss Re Foundation and AXA Insurance Mexico.
Below a brief description of the three initiatives:
Aliméntate Bien, Aliméntate Sano (ABAS) – Claudia Juárez
ABAS aims to satisfy the food necessities of elders, offering them access to nutritious food. ABAS will investigate these needs and distribute fruits and vegetables to them via a home delivery system.
Te Quiero te Cuido – Lorena Robles Brena
Te Quiero te Cuido is an alternative for the classical nursing home as we know it. This attention centre will implement productive, social, and procreative activities; and also offer medical, educative and psychological services. All with the goal of improving rights for elders and fomenting a positive culture towards this aging sector of society.
Adultos Mayores Anfitriones (AMA) – Rigoberto León Monterrubio
Touristic tours given around Oaxaca are always exhausting due to their intensity. AMA hopes to give elders the opportunity to live and know the culture of Oaxaca in a special way, giving tours specifically tailored toward this population. This way, they can share their wisdom and knowledge, and create both a comfortable and memorable visit for this sector of the tourist market.
